Scholarships represent a monthly allowance granted to cycle I and II students who pursue their studies on a full-time basis, for stimulating activity and social support. Scholarships are funded from state budget allocations, in accordance with current legislation. Students can benefit from three types of scholarships established by the Government (study, social, and merit).
These scholarships are awarded to students of cycle I and II, on a semester basis, based on achievements in learning. There are three categories of scholarships, and the amount of scholarship is the following: 655 MDL – I category; 550 MDL – II category and 510 MDL – III category. The scholarships for learning can be requested by students of cycle I and II, admitted to studies with state funding as well as students admitted to studies with private funding who perform their studies integrally, within the established time-frame, the syllabus for one semester /academic year, have positive grades and the set number of credits: 30 – for one semester and 60 for an academic year. Students of cycle I and II who are involved in mobility programs with financial support such as grants, including scholarships, as well as students who benefit from scholarships from various organizations (except for the sports organizations). The scholarships for education are granted on a semester basis, according to the achievements acquired during the exam sessions and shall be paid on a monthly basis, within the limits of the resources earmarked for this reason. The selection of candidates for scholarships shall be conducted within the faculties, in the descending order of the average score obtained during the examination session. For students of I year, I semester, the scholarships shall be set according to the average score acquired during the entrance examinations. The scholarships shall be granted through the ORDER of RECTOR based on the recommendations of Faculties.
This scholarship is granted, upon request, to the students of cycle I and II who come from needy families. The amount of the social scholarship is set by the Government and amounts to 285 MDL on a monthly basis.
The social scholarship can be granted to students of cycle I and II:
In order to be eligible for a social scholarship, the students under the above-mentioned categories shall provide on an annual/semester basis the certifying documents of the family situation. The social scholarships are granted on a semester basis, the selection of candidates is carried out within the Faculty based on the academic achievements of students and based on the family status. The nominal list shall be approved via the rector’s order. The students of cycle I and II, who are beneficiaries of social scholarships, may opt for the scholarship for studies. Details.
This scholarship shall be awarded to students of cycle I and II, starting with the 2nd year of study, based on the academic, scientific and extracurricular achievements.
For the students of cycles I and II, the following types of merit scholarships financed from the state budget shall be granted:
Students of cycle I and II who are on three-year programs may apply for the merit scholarships starting with semester III, but students who are on longer programs may apply for the merit scholarship starting the VII semester.
The students of cycle I and II who had an average grade of 9.0 for the summer examination session for the exact sciences (mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology) and not less that 9,5 in the field of humanities and who actively participate in scientific research, conferences, competitions, etc are eligible for the merit scholarship.
The merit scholarship will be granted to students of cycle I and II who have received, during one of the last two years of pre-university studies, an award for an international school competition (Olympiad) and have been admitted to a higher education institution without going through an admission competition.

Basic criteria for selection of candidates for merit scholarships are as follows:
Cycle I and II students who benefit from merit scholarships will not be able to apply for the scholarship for education during the same time-frame.

A student may not be granted concomitantly two state scholarships but may be granted one state scholarship and other scholarships offered by national and international organizations, sponsors, foundations, on a competitive basis, depending on academic performance.
Merit scholarship program was launched in 1996, upon initiative of Soros-Foundation Moldova in order to encourage academic, scientific and extracurricular achievements of students in Moldova. Currently, the competition is conducted by the Center for University Information under the auspicious of Board of rectors of the Republic of Moldova, with financial support from the Orange Moldova company, Moldova Agroindbank etc.
The program provides 50 annual scholarships of 12,000 MDL as follows:
Students who are citizens and residents of Republic of Moldova up to the age of 30 can participate in the competition. Students who are enrolled in the undergraduate programs, full-time study, last year of study and the master’s degree students who will follow up on their education as master’s degree students right after graduating the undergraduate program, full-time study, first year of study.
It is mandatory that the average grade for all years of study to be no lower than 9 points – for social sciences and humanities, 8,5 – area of exact sciences, technical sciences and health care and biological studies, and 8 – for the case of students with disabilities and/or orphans.
The following students will not be eligible for Merit scholarships:
The Government of USA supports financially a number of academic, professional and cultural exchange programs in the Republic of Moldova. The goal of these programs is to promote mutual understanding via the exchange programs and training programs and to promote democratic and economic reforms in Moldova via implementing the experience and knowledge of program participants. The educational exchange programs of the US Government are announced via the local media and posted on the web page of US Embassy and on the web pages of organizations that manage those programs. The deadlines for submitting the applications vary for each program separately over the duration of the whole year and, for that reason, the announcement is placed on the web at different dates. The participants are evaluated based on the following criteria: academic achievements, leadership potential, English language knowledge, and field of study. The programs offer equal opportunities for applicants and do not discriminate on a racial, colour, gender, religion, national or ethnical origin, disability basis. The applicants who have not benefited recently from education or research in US shall have priority. . Each program has additional criteria for eligibility. .

The program is organized with financial support of Emergency Fund/Foundations for an Open Society and the Commercial Bank “Moldova Agroindbank” SA and locally managed by Soros Moldova Foundation. The program is meant to support young people who come from Moldovan needy families, in order to facilitate their access to education within the higher education system. Additional scholarships , awarded based on competition, are meant to cover the academic fees, accommodation, meals and other needs related to study. This year there have been awarded 123 scholarships, the highest amount being of up to 1,500 USD.
